Acne Explained

1. What is Acne?

Acne is a term used for “blocked pores”. The pores become blocked, because the body over produces natural skin oils. Bacteria get into the pores and breed (ideal conditions for bacteria), causing skin irritation, infection and pimples (acne).

2. What Causes Acne?

Hormonal imbalances in the body normally associated with puberty. This in turn causes the body (facial area) to over secrete natural oils. This becomes infected and blocked, causing acne.

3. Who gets Acne?

80% of all Teenagers (11-19 years)
5% of Women over 40 years
1% of Men over 40 years

4. How long does it last?

Untreated Acne normally lasts for 4-5 years. In some cases it can last longer.

5. How To Cure Acne Fast

1. Wash your face twice a day (morning and night). Don’t do this more often as this can cause the oil glands in the face to secrete more oil, causing more acne.
2.

Drink lots of water to help flush out the toxins in the body.
3. Eat loads of fruit and vegetables to get the required vitamins (A,B,C,E, Iron).
4. Exercise regularly as this helps to rebalance the hormones in the body.
5. Don’t press, rub, prick or touch pimples as you risk reinfection elsewhere on the face.
6. Avoid stress as much as possible as this can agitate acne. Use a relaxation technique such as Yoga.
7. Wash your pillowcase every second day, to avoid the risk of re-infection.
8. Try to avoid coffee, alcohol and products with refined sugar.
9. Eat less greasy junk foods and rather have a fruit snack or a more healthy meal.
